I created this classic crochet Christmas tree pattern by myself and I am going to use it as part of my Christmas wreath. But it always can be used somewhere else as well 😊 In this occasion tree decoration is very simple, but you can try and change it to something more eye catching. What about colourful buttons for example?
It is classic and very simple crochet Christmas tree. Pattern is very easy to follow and as well as that, it is self-standing. Size of finished tree is approximately 12cm or 4.7″.
I used 2.5mm crochet hook for this pattern as it is my favourite size, but feel free to use different size hook.

Materials you will need:
- Green, brow and orange DK yarn
- Crochet hook (in this occasion I’m using 2.5mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Stuffing
Abbreviations:
SC – single crochet
INC – single crochet increase
DEC – single crochet decrease
SL ST – slip stitch
CH – chain

Stuff as you go. Don’t stuff too much at the bottom of the tree as you won’t be able to form it later.
Round 1: 4 sc in magic ring [4]
Round 2: (sc in next st, inc) repeat 2 times [6]
Round 3: (sc in next 2 st, inc) repeat 2 times [8]
Round 4: (sc in next 3 st, inc) repeat 2 times [10]
Round 5: (sc in next 4 st, inc) repeat 2 times [12]
Round 6: (sc in next 5 st, inc) repeat 2 times [14]
Round 7: (sc in next 6 st, inc) repeat 2 times [16]
Round 8: (sc in next 7 st, inc) repeat 2 times [18]
Round 9: sc in next 4 st, inc, sc in next 8 st, inc, sc in next 4 st [20]
Round 10: (sc in next 9 st, inc) repeat 2 times [22]

From now crochet in back loops only unless stated otherwise.
Round 24: sc in all 48 st [48]
Round 25: (sc in next 6 st, dec) repeat 6 times [42]
Round 26: (sc in next 5 st, dec) repeat 6 times [36]
Round 27: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 6 times [30]
Change yarn colour to brown. Crochet round 28 in front loops only, rounds 29 and 30 crochet as normal.
Round 28-30: sc in all 30 st [30]
Crochet in back loops only till the end.
Round 31: sc in all 30 st [30]
Round 32: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
Round 33: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
Round 34: (sc in next 1 st, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
Round 32: (dec) repeat 6 times [6]
Finish off, hide ends.
Tree decoration
Crochet of your preferred colour. I used orange in this occasion.
Round 1: 4 sc in magic ring [4]
Round 2: (inc) repeat 4 times [8]
Round 3: sc in all 8 st [8]
Round 4: (dec) repeat 4 times [4]
Stuff slightly and 1 slip stitch to close the circle. Don’t finish it off and make chain of 130 stitches. After making chain don’t finish it off and cut the yarn leaving quite log tail. Let’s leave it just in case if our decoration will be too long or too short. At the end start attaching decoration to the tree using tapestry needle and the same yarn colour as decoration. It is best to start working from the top.
