Remember and honour our heroes – make Remembrance Day crochet poppy brooch with this free and easy to follow pattern 😊 Finished poppy can be used as a brooch or a beautiful embellishment for any décor item.
If you will use 3.0mm crochet hook size of finished crochet poppy will be approximately 6cm width and 4cm height. However, if you want to make crochet poppy without leave and a bit bigger, you can find another crochet poppy pattern here.

This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
TR – triple crochet
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
(…) – repeat the space in brackets the given number of times
Materials and tools you will need:
- DK yarn – some red, green and black
- 3.0mm crochet hook (look at these amigurumi hooks on amazon 😉)
- Tapestry needle
- Hobby scissors
- Brooch pins (I used these 25mm pins from Amazon)
- Glue gun
Flower base
Start crocheting with red yarn.
Make chain 4 and join with sl st in a circle.
Round 1: Ch 1, 10 sc into circle, join with sc into first sc.
Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc into next st, 2dc into next st, 3 tr into next st, 2 tr into next st, ch 2 and sl st into next st, ch 2 and 3 dc into next st, 2 dc into next st, 3 tr into next st, 3 dc into next st, ch 2 and sl st into next st. Finish off.
Poppy centre
Using black yarn make 10 sc into magic circle. Pull loose thread nice and tight.
Finish off with sl st and leave tail for sewing.
Poppy leave
Use green yarn, start with ch of 10 sc.
Starting from ch 3: 3 dc into next st, (1 dc into next st) repeat 3 times, (hdc into next st) repeat 2 times, 1 sc into next st, sl st into next st (should be last st of your chain):
Ch 2, sl st into the same st, now we will work on other side of our ch. Sc into next st, (hdc into next st) repeat 2 times, (1 dc into next st) repeat 3 times, 3 dc into next st, join with sl st with the top of our very first treble.
Finish off with sl st, leave tail for sewing:
Assembly
Step 1: Insert black poppy centre into the middle of our red flower and sew it in using tapestry needle:
Step 2: using tapestry needle attach poppy leave to the back of our flower:
Step 3: Using glue gun attach pin to the back of our crochet poppy:
And crochet poppy with leave brooch is complete 😊
