Crochet Daffodil Flower Brooch

In this blog post we are going to make crochet daffodil flower brooch.

Daffodil is one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, daffodils are seen as a representation of rebirth and new beginnings. They are also thought to represent inspiration, forgiveness, and creativity.

Below I am going to make crochet daffodil flower brooch in cheerful orange, yellow and green colours but it’s good project for yarn leftovers and can be made in any preferable colours.

Materials and tools required:

Abbreviations:

SC – single crochet

INC – increase (2 stitches in one stitch)

ST – stitch

SL ST – slip stitch

HDC – half double crochet

HDC INC – half double crochet increase (2 half double crochet stitches in one stitch)

DC – double crochet

CH – chain

HTR – half treble crochet

Trumpet

Make one trumpet out of orange yarn.

Start with magic circle and work in continuous rounds.

Round 1: 6 sc into magic circle [6]

Round 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]

Round 3-4: sc in each st [12]

Round 5: (inc) repeat 12 times [24]

Finish off with sl st and hide the end.

I did stitch my yarn end with a crochet hook through the trumpet and through magic circle and knotted both ends together.

Leaves

Make 2 leaves out of green yarn.
Start with chain of 11 stitches.

Our leaves will consist only out of one round and we will work around our chain.

When you done chain of 11 stitches, follow this sequence starting from chain 2: sc, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc, ch 1, turn around and work on the bottom of our chain and follow the same sequence: sc, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc. Finish off with sl st, hide the end.

I did stitch my yarn to another side of leave, where beginning end is and knotted them together.

Finished leaves:

Petals

Make out of light yellow yarn. We will have 7 petals in our daffodil.

Round 1: start with magic circle, chain 2, 11 hdc, finish round off with sl st in the chain of 2 from the beginning of our round [11]

Round 2: chain 2 and starting from next st: (hdc inc) repeat 11 times, finish round off with sl st in the chain of 2 from the beginning of our round [22]

Petals after finishing round 2:

Round 3: starting from next st: (sc, dc and htr in one st, ch 3, htr, dc and sc in next st, sl st in the following st) repeat 7 times, finish with sl st at the first sc of the round, cut the yarn of.



Petals after finishing round 3 and after blocking:

Flower base

Make out of green yarn.

Round 1: 6 sc into magic circle [6]

Round 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]

Round 3: sc in each st [12]

Finish off with sl st, leave long tail for sewing.

Assembly

All finished parts – 2 leaves, trumpet, petals, base:

Step 1: Block petals and leaves – using pins attach petals and leaves to cardboard wrapped in cling film (or any other blocking board you have). Spray some water/steam on them and leave to dry:



Step 2: Using needle and thread attach pearl bead to inside of our trumpet:

Step 3: Using tapestry needle and long end of orange yarn from our trumpet attach trumpet to our petals. Attach trumpet to the centre of petals:



Step 4: Using tapestry needle and long end of yarn from our flower base attach flower base to the bottom of petals, but don’t attach it fully, stop in half way. Make sure when attaching it with green yarn it doesn’t show in front of our daffodil – try touching only back of our petals with your needle. attach leaves inside between petals and flower receptacle before closing it off:

Step 5: Using tapestry needle and green yarn, attach brooch to the base of our daffodil flower:



And our crochet daffodil flower brooch is finished ☺☺☺☺
