It’s a great free crochet crossbody bag pattern that makes a lovely bag you can use in the sunny summery days.
This easy crochet rainbow crossbody bag pattern is made up of 1 big rainbow rectangle and 1 rainbow triangle. You will crochet them using 3.0mm crochet hook.
In addition to this I bought rainbow strap from Amazon (you can find it here). Without a doubt you can crochet your own strap – just make chain of your preferred length and using half double crochet stitch make it your preferred thickness and colour. I attached my strap to the handbag using 15mm D-rings (which I got from Amazon here) so it can be removed anytime. Alternatively, using tapestry needle you can just sew it on.
For lining I used old pillowcase but I will include link for Amazon where you can get proper lining. I’m just being creative here and trying to utilise whenever I can find at home 😊
Also, I used white 30cm zip which I got from Amazon as well.
Finally, let me show you how to crochet this lovey crochet rainbow crossbody bag!
Why don’t try this crochet rainbow heart keyring or this adorable crochet rainbow keyring? They definitely will go well with this handbag! 😍

Now using still the same purple yarn make chain 3 and crochet bottom of our triangle. From one end of triangle to another make approximately 46 DC. Our triangle looks like as shown in the picture below:
Repeat the same for 3 more rows and finish off leaving long tail for sewing:
Assembly
Step 1: cut the lining to the shape and size of our handbag, use this formula below to get the right size of lining:
Width of the lining fabric = width of the bag + twice the depth of the bag + 1″ for seam allowance
Height of the lining fabric = twice the height of the bag + the depth of the bag + 1/2″ for seam allowance
Step 2: With right sides together, fold the lining in half, letting the top edges meet. Sew the sides using a 1/2″ seam allowance. As my lining is white, I used sewing needle and white thread:
Step 3: Turn the top of the lining down 1/2″ toward the wrong side and place the lining inside the bag with wrong sides out. Use sewing needle with thread and stitch the lining to the top of the bag using big running stitches.
Step 4: Using tapestry needle and various yarn colours secure properly lining and attach the zip at the same time, after finishing remove white thread:
Step 5: using tapestry needle and purple yarn attach D-rings to each side:
Step 6: Attach our rainbow strap to D-rings and our handbag is ready 😊
