Dress

Our dress will be made mainly out of pink yarn and at the end we are going to add a bit of white yarn.

At the beginning we are going to work in rows, not continuous rounds. It means at the end of each row you have to turn around and crochet back.

Starting with chain 31.

Row 1(starting from ch 2): sc in 30 st [30]

Row 2: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 29 st [30]

Row 3: ch 1, sc in the same st,  sc in next 3 st, ch 10, skip 8 st, sc in next 6 st, ch 10, skip 6 st, sc in next 4 st. That will be our arm opening for the dress. [34]

Row 4: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 3 st, inc, sc in next 8 st, inc, sc in next 6 st, inc, sc in next 8 st, inc, sc in next 4 st [38]

That’s how dress should look after finishing row 4:

Dress - row 4

Row 5: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 11 st, inc, sc in next 12 st, inc, sc in next 12 st [40]

Row 6: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 3 st, inc, (sc in in next 4 st, inc) repeat 7 times [48]

Rows 7-9(3 rows): ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 47 st [48]

Row 10: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 6 st, inc, (sc in in next 7 st, inc) repeat 5 times [54]

Rows 11-12(2 rows): ch 1, sc in the same st,  sc in next 53 st [54]

Row 12: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 7 st, inc, (sc in in next 8 st, inc) repeat 5 times [60]

Rows 13-17(5 rows): ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 59 st [60]

Now we will start working in rounds. To start working in rounds we need to join both dress’ ends with sl st as shown in the picture below. Arrow in the picture below shows where sl st should be:

Dress - joining

Round 1(crochet this round in front loops only): ch 2, dc in the same st, (dc inc, dc in next st) repeat 29 times, join the round with sl st [90]

Dress after completing round 1:

Round 2: ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in next st, (dc inc, dc in 2 next st) repeat 29 times, join the round with sl st [120]

Round 3: ch 2, dc in the same st, dc in next 2 st, (dc inc, dc in 3 next st) repeat 29 times, join the round with sl st [150]

Change yarn to white colour.

Round 4: sc in all 150 st [150]

Finish off with sl st and hide the end.

What to do with the back of the dress is your choice. You can put the dress on and sew the back so it won’t be removable, or you can do what I did – I used buttons and the dress now can be on and off.

Back of the dress

Bow

Make 16 ch with light pink yarn. Continue working in rows from the 2nd ch from the hook.

Row 1: sc in next 15 st [15]

Row 2-10: 1 ch, sc in next 15 st [15]

Row 2-10: 1 ch, sc in next 15 st [15]

You should end up with square like in the picture below:

Base of the bow

Join both ends together and sl st them, and then sl st both sides.

Bow assembly

Use tapestry needle with pink yarn to shape the bow:

Assembly

Firstly, we are going to embroider our head using black yarn:

Face embroidery

Then, using tapestry needle attach nose between eyes:

Nose attachment

And final step for our head is attaching ears. Use tapestry needle and attach them approximately 6 rows apart:

When head is complete, we need to attach it to the body. Make sure you stuff body very well before closing it off, otherwise head will be wobbly. Afterwards, attach hands 1-2 stitches below head:

Body assembly

And finally, put the dress on. That’s it, our crochet Hello Kitty is done 😊
