Tools and materials you will need for this crochet Santa:

Abbreviations:

CH – chain

SC – single crochet

ST – stitch

SL ST – slip stitch

INC – increase

DEC – decrease

DC – double crochet

[…] – total number of stitches in the round

(…) – repeat instructions given in brackets

Legs and body

Start crocheting with black yarn and make 2 legs. Also work in continuous rounds.

When making legs finish first leg with sl st, but do not finish second leg as we are going to start working on the body straight away.



Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring [6]

Round 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]

Round 3: (sc into next st, inc) repeat 6 times [18]

Round 4: (sc into next 2 st, inc) repeat 6 times [24]

Round 5: (sc into next 3 st, inc) repeat 6 times [30]

Foot after finishing round 5:

Round 6 (in back loops only): sc into next 30 st [30]

Round 7-9 (3 rounds): sc into next 30 st [30]

Round 10: (dec) repeat 6 times, sc into next 18 st [24]

Round 12-15 (4 rows): sc into next 18 st [18]

Before starting round 16 we are going to move our beginning of the round to the side of our leg so we don’t see colour change in the front of the leg – just sc into next 12 st.



Stuff bottom of our foot with toy filling, but do not stuff too much – that will help for bottom of foot stay flat.

Afterwards, change yarn colour to red and continue to stuff as you go.

Round 16: (sc into next 5 st, inc) repeat 3 times [21]

Round 17-20 (4 rounds): sc into next 21 st [21]

Rounds 21: (sc into next 6 st, inc) repeat 3 times [24]

Round 22-25 (4 rounds): sc into next 24 st [24]

Before staring round 26 we are going to join our legs together and will start working on the body. Put crochet Santa legs together making sure both legs are facing the same way. Single crochet (or reduce) a few stitches in the second leg if you need to, then make chain 2 and attach chain to the second leg with sl st. After joining start crocheting:

Round 26: sc in next 24 st, sc in chain of 2, sc in next 24 st, sc in chain of 2. You should end up in the middle of the belly on the front side [52]

Round 27-29 (3 rounds): sc in next 52 st [52]

Round 30: (sc in next 12 st, inc) repeat 4 times [56]

Round 31-34 (4 rounds): sc in next 56 st [56]

Round 36 (back loops only): sc in next 52 st [52]

Before starting round 37 we are going to move our beginning of the round to the side of the body – just sc in next 12 st.

Change yarn colour to black.

Round 44-46 (3 rounds): sc in next 36 st [36]

Finish off with sl st and leave long tail for sewing the head on later.

In next step we are going to work on our tummy area. Remember round 36, where we did back loops only? So now we are going to attach red yarn to front loops of round 36 and single crochet in them. Attach yarn to the centre of our tummy and single crochet around.

This time we are not going to make continuous circles – when you will come to the end of the round do not join it together, just ch 1 and start crocheting back. Make 4 rows:

1-4 row: ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 51 st [52]

Row 5: attach Zarela Baby Fluffy Wool yarn and single crochet around. Finish off with sl st.

Afterwards, using tapestry needle and orange yarn embroider the belt as shown in the picture below:

Use your preferred body colour yarn and work in continuous rounds.

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring [6]

Insert eyes between rounds 16 and 17, approximately 10 stitches apart, and start stuffing with toy filling as you go.

Fasten off the yarn leaving small tail. Pass the yarn end through the front loops of the rest 6 stitches with your hook or sewing needle and pull to close the hole. Weave the end.

Make 2 hands.

Start crocheting with your preferred body colour yarn and work in continuous rounds.

Round 4-6 (3 rounds): sc in next 15 st [15]

Change yarn colour to red.

Stuff very slightly bottom of the arm with toy filling.

Put both sides of the arm together and slip stitch them, afterwards leave long tail for sewing.

Attach Zarela Baby Fluffy Wool yarn to front loops of round 7 and sc one round.

Pom-Pom

Make pom-pom out of white colour yarn.

Round 1: 6 sc into magic ring [6]

Round 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]

Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) repeat 6 times [18]

Round 4-6 (3 rounds): sc in next 18 st [18]

Round 7: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times [12]

Round 8: (dec) repeat 6 times [6]

Fasten off the yarn leaving tail for sewing.

Pass the yarn end through the front loops of the rest 6 stitches with your hook or sewing needle and pull to close the hole.

Finally, sew pom-pom to the top of our hat.

Little present

Make it out of your preferred colour – I used orange. Make 2 squares out of orange colour.

Make chain 10 and start crocheting from second stitch:

Row 1: sc in next 9 st [9]

Row 2-8 (7 rows): ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in next 8 st [9]

Finish off with sl st. when finishing second square leave long tail for sewing.

Now put 2 squares together and using tapestry sew them together, stuff slightly before closing it off:

Afterwards, take white yarn and single crochet as it shown in the picture below. To make a bow on the top of our present: chain 10, sl st at the very first chain, chain 10 again and sl st at the very first chain. Finish off.

Make out of light brown colour and work in continuous rounds.

Assembly

Step 1: using tapestry needle attach head to the body. Stuff body a bit more before closing it off so it will help to avoid wobbly head.

Step 2: Using body coloured yarn and tapestry needle embroider nose as shown in the picture below:

Step 3: Using black yarn and tapestry needle embroider eyebrows above the eyes as shown in the picture below:

Step 4: Using tapestry needle attach hands to the body, just 1-2 rows below the head:

Step 5: measure the size of beard required and cut it out of faux fur material:

Step 6: using glue gun attach the bead:
